How to Play Baccarat
There are two hands dealt in the game of Baccarat: the "banker" hand and the "player" hand. All participants at the table can bet on either of these hands. Two cards each are dealt to the player and the banker. If the hand count with these two cards is less than eight or nine, the player may "stand" or choose to draw one more card. The player must stand on six or seven, and he must draw on four or less. The banker always draws if his hand is less than six and the player's hand stands on six or seven. Those rules law the basic ground for Baccarat strategy.
It is important to note the peculiar "counting" of cards in Baccarat. Although face cards count as ten, an ace is one, and all the other cards count at their numerical value, scores are only counted in one digit. In other words, two face cards with a value of 20 count as 0. An eight and a ten would not be eighteen, but only eight. Thus the highest hand is nine points.
Betting in Baccarat
There are three bets to choose from: player, banker and tie. The player bet pays even money. The banker bet pays even money less a 5% commission (for the house), and the tie bet pays 8 to 1.
Baccarat Strategy
Despite all that is written about this game in books and on the internet, there is no real baccarat strategy. In that respect it is not at all like blackjack. You cannot "card count: or "shuffle track". It is really just a matter of betting on the hand with a total closest to nine and then waiting to see what the third card drawn will do.
According to the "experts", the drawing rules slightly favor the banker to win, even though the 5% commission still ensures there is a house edge. Therefore, any kind of "Baccarat strategy" will tell you to always bet on the banker's hand.
There is no way to find a pattern of "results" to go by, and predicting future trends is impossible. The house advantage in Baccarat is traditionally low, which is why players generally feel they have a good chance of winning.
